The Capetonians dominated possession in the first half and capitalised on it to score two tries – one of which was converted – and a penalty goal for a handy 15-3 lead, and they built on this with four second half tries for a commanding victory.

The home side, in turn, battled to make their presence felt from the outset despite a concerted effort to penetrate the DHL Stormers defence in the first half, and this showed on the scoreboard with their efforts earning them only two penalty goals.

The Capetonians threatened to score on a few occasions in the opening minutes thanks to some enterprising play, and they finally broke through in the eighth minute after slick hands out wide saw Ernst van Rhyn (flanker) score their first try.

Tafel Lager Griquas struck back a few minutes later with a penalty goal by Tinus de Beer (flyhalf), but this was cancelled out by a three-pointer compliments of DHL Stormers and Springbok flyhalf Damian Willemse, which pushed his side into an 8-3 lead.

Both teams continued to run hard on attack, but it was the visitors who had the last say in the half with Neethling Fouche (prop) gathering a brilliant pop pass by Warrick Gelant (fullback) to dive over, and the successful conversion saw them take a 15-3 lead.

De Beer reduced their deficit with his second penalty goal less than two minutes after play resumed, but DHL Stormers debutant Angelo Davids (wing) extended their lead soon after as he picked up the ball from a smart kick upfield.

His team-mate Dan du Plessis (centre) added their fourth try in the 51st minute as he ran a great line at pace to receive an accurate inside pass to touch down, and the successful conversion stretched their lead to 27-6.

The visitors continued to inflict damage as the match progressed with Juarno Augustus (No 8) and Willemse adding tries within six minutes as the team continued to showcase their attacking skills, earning them a 39-6 win.
