The SA Rugby Under-21 Shield was contested by Eastern Province, Griffons, Griquas, Pumas, Valke and SWD following the withdrawal of Boland, Border and Limpopo. The competition ran from 19/20 August over a single round of matches to the final on 15 October, when the Griffons beat the Valke in Welkom.
